Licensing for intrastate moves in California
Intrastate household goods movers in California are regulated by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), California Department of Consumer Affairs. Requirement: An active CAL-T permit from BHGS, plus public liability and cargo insurance on file.
Worth knowing if you have been in the trade a while: household goods authority moved from the CPUC to BHGS on 1 July 2018 under SB-19, after more than 90 years at the CPUC. Permits are now verified through the BHGS licence search, and rates fall under Maximum Rate Tariff 4.

How much do moving leads cost in California?
The same as everywhere else we operate: $15 for a shared local lead and $20 long-distance, $28 and $38 on the two-mover tier, $45 and $85 exclusive, and $60 and $90 for live transfers. We do not charge more for busy states.
Do I need a licence to move households within California?
An active CAL-T permit from BHGS, plus public liability and cargo insurance on file is what California requires, through the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), California Department of Consumer Affairs. Confirm your own authority is current before buying leads — we do not verify it for you, and interstate work is separately regulated by the FMCSA.
